Who we are

Kids Cottage is a 34 & 40 place family owned, managed and operated Early Childhood Long Day Care and Education Service, located in Gladesville and now in Hunters Hill.

Kids Cottage has been making connections with the community of Gladesville and the surrounding suburbs for over 16 years, collaboratively caring for and educating children from infants through to pre-school age.

Our Beliefs & Motto

Kids Cottage recognise and value the child as a citizen with rights and responsibilities, capable and resourceful. Kids Cottage acknowledge the importance of the early years for laying the foundations for later development and learning.  We recognise that care and education are interwoven and cannot be separated.  Kids Cottage community does not just transition or prepare children for school.  Kids Cottage prepares children for a successful pathway to life.  Kids Cottage shares the view of children’s lives as characterised by belonging, being and becoming. Kids Cottage believes this process begins as early as prenatal as children are connected to family, community, culture and place.  Kids Cottage also believe in an old African proverb, “it takes a community to raise a child”.  Our Kids Cottage motto is “Ready for Kindy, Ready for Life”.

Our Curriculum & Program

Kids Cottage dynamic and transforming curriculum does not just conform to the minimum standards as required by the National Quality Framework (NQF) which includes: National & NSW State Legislation; National Regulations and National Quality Standard linked to Belonging, Being & Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) overseen by ACECQA and regulated by NSW Department of Educations & Communities Services. Furthermore, Kids Cottage is also guided by suitable and appropriate approaches to education and care such as: Reggio Emilia; and the Department of Children Services NSW Curriculum Framework for Children’s Services.  Also, most up to date theory and research such as, Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory, neuroscience, wellbeing, spirituality, and environmental sustainability

In our early childhood setting curriculum means ‘all the interactions, experiences, activities, routines and events, planned and unplanned, that occur in an environment designed to foster children’s learning and development’. [adapted from Te Whariki and NSW Curriculum framework]

The centre uses a ‘play based’ approach to support children’s learning and development and is child/family/community centred responding to the individual interest, strength and needs of all children in the group with a focus on optimising the development (traditional development domains are: physical; cognitive; language; social, and emotional) and learning potential of the ‘whole child’ in partnership with the parent, professional, educator, child and community.

Our aims

Kids Cottage aims to achieve this by exceeding the new national quality standards including early years learning framework with its underlying seven key quality areas and elements which forms the basis of our practice and operations with the aim to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transition to school. The aim of providing excellence in service quality will also support and promote children’s broad learning and development outcomes of belonging, being and becoming.  In addition our aim for providing excellence in quality education and care services will be further achieved by providing a responsive, safe, warm, open-ended, stimulating, and engaging social; temporal; and physical environment (early childhood setting) which is continually evaluated and renewed with the aim of promoting and supporting life enhancing relationships; practice in ways that acknowledge the child as capable and resourceful; strive for meaning and connection; and honouring diversity, access, inclusion and equity.
